after the honeymoon, or a variety of other adjectives after the marriage has persisted for some time.
Cougar: An older woman looking for love with a younger man (aka Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher).
Dating: An engagement to go out socially with another person, often out of romantic interest.
Domestic partnership: Gay or straight couples that live together but are not married. The partnerships may or may not be legal.
Double exposure: An Internet dating term to describe meeting someone for the first time and discovering that they're wearing the same outfit pictured on their dating profile.
Friendship divorce: A breakup between platonic friends, akin to a divorce or separation. Sometimes, friends just drift apart and lead separate lives, leading to the friendship divorce. While partings can be permanent, some friends reunite and return to a 'pre-divorce' state.
Marriage: The act of uniting a man and woman for life. Men and woman are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family, an intimate or close union.
Matchmaking: The act of bringing together two parties together for a relationship of mutual interest to the parties. One who arranges or tries to arrange marriages.
Online: A term that has commonly come to mean connected to the Internet
. It also is used to refer to materials stored on a computer (e.g., an online newsletter) or to a device like a printer that is ready to accept commands from a computer.
Personals: Listings of single people wanting to meet other people for friendship, relationship and more. Usually found in newspapers, magazines and most predominantly online. There are many, many websites available for online personal listings.
Romance: Ardent emotional attachment or involvement between people; love.
Single: A state of being solitary or without another, solo or by one self. Not connected to another in a romantic relationship.
Starter marriage: A first marriage that lasts less than five years and produces no children. A play on the phrase starter home
